GETTING married was ample reason for Ipswich City Bulls footballer Mark Fancourt to enjoy his buck's party at the Ipswich Turf Club.
However, he gained an added surprise when the last race was named in his honour.
The Mark Fancourts Married Class 1 Handicap was run over 1100m at the Bundamba track last Friday.
Mark's brother and best man Richard, who is also a tough defender for the Bulls, organised the outing before today's wedding.
Fittingly, the groom and Richard had a photo taken with the horse that won the Fancourt race.
It's amusing seeing how much Mark and Richard tower over winning jockey Larry Cassidy, who rode Jacaranda Avenue to victory.
Phantom was told that Mark had a memorable time at the races judging by him being last to leave.
However, word is he didn't secure any extra spending money for his honeymoon.
Mark and fiancée Emma met at the Redbank Plains Tavern seven years ago.
Phantom has been told Mark proposed to Emma on the first day they arrived in Europe a few years ago on a family holiday.
The proposal was on the Ponts des Arts love bridge.
Mark was down on bended knee and showed plenty of emotion.
Today's wedding venue is a mystery with only immediate family attending.
However, a reception is planned tonight after the Bulls play The Gap at Sutton Park.
