We hope you are having a wonderful Easter Break and the weather isn’t dampening your spirits too much.
Welcome to the 40th anniversary season of Ipswich City Bulls and it promises to be a defining one for our future direction. To those members who were with us in 2014 and were aware of the issues that we faced this is just an update as we reach the 6 month point from our AGM. For all new members to 2015 I’m happy to share with you the details of the 2014 AGM if you would like to see them.
As we are all well in to our seasons now it is pleasing to see that the success from last season is continuing and we are being competitive throughout the club. Three of our competitive teams are sitting on top of their respective leagues (City League 4 Silver, City League 6 Silver and U-14 Girls Div 1), two are sitting in second place (Capital 2 Reserves & Ladies City 4 Silver) and our top mens side is sitting 3rd in Capital League 2. Our Miniroos are being competitive in their fixtures but we are not allowed to record or report on their success unfortunately. Though it is still very early in the season it is a fantastic platform to launch what will hopefully be another highly successful season.
Our Committee and active working member numbers have grown exponentially in 2015 which has enabled us to focus in areas where it has been a struggle to do so in the past. We now have 11 Committee members compared to 4 in 2014 and a growing number of members who are putting in the hard yards to help out as they begin to see the value in what we are trying to achieve. This has lightened the workload of everyone considerably and though I still do the long days I am at least now able to enjoy the football a little more. Of course as with any voluntary organization there is never enough help and there are still positions in the structure of the Committee that need filling so if you do want to be part of what we are trying to achieve please contact [email protected] for further details.
Our current number of registered members is now on a par with 2014 and stands around the 240 mark which is a great effort from all concerned in ensuring we followed through on our advertising and recruiting plan. Though our core members have returned to the club again we have lost some peripheral members but thankfully have gained many new people and some real talent across the club. Considering the problems we had last season with communication, engagement and support of our members this is a very pleasing result indeed. I firmly believe from what I hear that we have improved immensely in these areas in 2015, though we are well aware this is a work in progress and we are currently undertaking an evaluation of our process for ordering uniform as to still not have it in full by now is not acceptable, though we were affected by cash flow earlier in the financial year. Another area being addressed is having someone manning the canteen on Junior home games as some parents have quite rightly asked the question and it is something we need to ensure happens.
Our concentration over the month of April will be on ensuring we collect the remaining registration monies which will enable us to pay our Football Brisbane Invoice which should arrive anytime soon. As mentioned at the AGM we have continually struggled to collect all payments for various reasons, but, thanks to having a robust system of recording this time around we are confident this will happen. Currently we have collected in excess of 60% of registration across the club which puts us in a position we have not been in for a long time so again well done to all involved in this process. We do owe it to those who have paid in full to ensure we work hard to ensure a level of 100% is achieved. Please remember payment plans are an option if it would help to spread the payments please contact [email protected] for further info.
As you may remember coming in to this financial year we were 18k in debt and operating with virtually zero cash flow. Thanks to the hard work of our Committee and members we are now in a position where we have a healthy cash flow and our debt is being chipped away at. It must be said though that the outstanding registration does need to be collected in full and then with a couple of successful fundraising events which are being planned at the moment we should reach our target this year of ‘break even’. Please remember we do not intend to have a large positive bank balance and the more money we make the more equipment we can purchase and the lower we can keep the annual registration fees going forward.
A number of events have been held recently which have contributed to our healthier financial position; Six a Side tournament raised $2000 (before the council decided to relay our field and cut the tournament short), our car wash and sausage sizzle raised $300, our Asian Cup night raised $600 and our Family Fun Day raised $1300 additionally the bar takings for this day plus the game v Western Spirit raised an extra $1500. We have a number of other events coming up over the next few months which will include Movies in the Park 11th April (where we have been given permission to open the canteen), a Golf Day on the 3rd May, State of Origin Night 27th May, Sausage sizzle at Bunnings 21st June, Junior Presentation day on 6th September (which we intend to make in to more of an event as they have been disappointing in the past) and the Senior Presentation night 26th September. If we can get the right amount of support and backing for these events we should have an exceptional year.
As I did state earlier we do need your help and support to ensure we do have a successful year on and off the field and on behalf of the Committee of the club I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for being part of what we believe are going to be exciting and successful times here at the ‘Bulls’.
If you feel you can help in any way or even have some ideas on how we can improve what we do please do not hesitate to contact me in confidence on [email protected]
Please enjoy the rest of your break and we look forward to seeing you after the holidays.
